Lucknow, Dec 20 ():Opposing the reservations in promotions in government jobs for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, government employees in Uttar Pradesh performed mock last rites of BJP and Congress as a mark of protest and threw eggs and tomatoes at the party office.
With increasing pressure, the state unit MLAs of the BJP have decided to meet party chief Nitin Gadkari on Thursday in order to express their dissatisfaction over the party’s stand. The 117th Amendment Bill seeking reservation in promotion was cleared on Monday by the Upper House and is likely to be tabled in the Lok Sabha .
Following bitterness and hatred over the party stand on the bill, national vice-president of the party and MLA from Lucknow Kalraj Misra said that the MLAs will be meeting Gadkari at 4:00 pm on Thursday and would explain the party chief about the increasing disagreement between the party workers over the bill.
Misra also said that they would also tell Gadkari that the reservation in promotion bill is not in the interest of the State. State BJP chief Laxmikant Bajpayi while expressing his concern against the bill said the BJP in its present form should not extend its support to the bill as it will not be appropriate at this stage.
The bill has sent shock waves among the people of the upper castes and the government employees in Uttar Pradesh, who indulged in widespread protest after the passing of the bill in Rajya Sabha.
Meanwhile, aiming to ensure its stability, the UPA government took a lot of effort in passing the promotion bill. Sources said both the BJP and the Congress will be facing severe problem in the national level if the bill is successfully passed in the Lok Sabha .Madhya Pradesh and Bihar MPs of the BJP have also expressed worries over the bill.
