Miss Universe 2012 : India’s contestant is Shilpa Singh

New Delhi, Dec 19 (): Shilpa Singh from Bihar will compete with other 88 stunningly beautiful contestants from various countries in the 61st Miss Universe 2012 pageant, which will be held in Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on Dec. 19, Wednesday, at 8 pm EST/5 pm PST.  Miss Universe 2012 pageant will be broadcast live from Las Vegas on Telemundo and NBC.

Shilpa Singh, India’s candidate to the Miss Universe 2012 pageant hails from a small village called Vishnupur Diha in Singhia, Samastipur, Bihar. She is a 23-year-old graduate in computer science from Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management & Engineering in Mumbai. At present, she is working as a software specialist in Infosys Technologies.

Shilpa Singh enjoys playing basketball, cooking and swimming and she believes her father is the most important person in her life. She has a great passion towards modelling and dancing. By living in over 8 cities across India, she has got the opportunity to meet new people and learn about different cultures.

Her village is very confident that their village girl will win the contest. Prayers are being held for success of the “daughter of their soil” at the beauty pageant.

Shilpa’s family members are also very excited. Her grandmother Binda Devi said that they were feeling quite thrilled to know the final results. She said she could not express her happiness in words.

Her mother Rita Singh said that from her childhood she has taken part in many events. She is an all-rounder. She has also won many prizes in the extra-curriculum activities, such as dance and sports. Shilpa’s mother hoped her daughter would win the Miss Universe contest as well.

Shilpa moved to Mumbai with her family after her father, Suresh Kumar Singh, was posted as a senior engineer with Indian Oil.

Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen won the Miss Universe pageant title in 1994. Lara Dutta won the title 12 years ago in Cyprus. For so many years, the Miss Universe title has eluded India. Now, much hope is on the delicate beauty, Shilpa Singh from Bihar!
