Kabaddi World Cup : A look back at previous title winners

New Delhi, Dec 13 (): The Kabaddi World Cup was first played in 2004 and then in 2007, 2010 and 2011. So far India is the unbeaten champion in Kabaddi World Cup.

Iran is the next most successful nation being twice runner-up. Pakistan was the runner-up in 2010 and Canada was the runner-up in 2011.

The Women’s Kabaddi World Cup was first played in 2012 in Patna, Bihar and India. India won the championship defeating Iran in the finals.

Kabaddi World Cup 2004 was the first Kabaddi World Cup and was played in India. India won the first ever world cup with a 55-27 score line over Iran in the final.

Kabaddi World Cup 2007 was played in India. Host India won the world cup by beating Iran in the finals by 29 – 19. Total of 14 teams took part in this competition out of which 11 were Asian.

Kabaddi World Cup 2010 was the first international circle style Kabaddi World Cup and was held in Punjab, India. Nine teams competed in the 1st edition Kabaddi World Cup-2010 hosted by the Punjab Government at different venues of the state from April 3 to 12. In the last-minute, Norway withdrew from its participation, so nine teams participated in the match.

India won 2010 Kabaddi World Cup by smashing Pakistan in a tough match on 12th April at Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana. The prize money was 1 crore and a glittering Golden World Cup Trophy. Pakistani team was given 51 lakh prize money and a Silver Cup Trophy.

The best stopper award was won by Indian Captain Mangat Singh Manga and Best Raider award won by Kulwinder Singh Kinda of Canada.

Kabaddi World Cup 2011 was the second edition of the circle style Kabaddi World Cup played in Punjab, India and overall fourth Kabaddi World Cup. It was played in various cities of the province from 1 to 20 November 2011 with teams from 14 countries.

India won 2011 Kabaddi World Cup by defeating Canada in an interesting match on 20th November at Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana. The prize money was doubled to 2 crore for the winning team for this edition. The runner-up earned 1 crore, while the team finishing in third place received 51 lakhs.

Kabaddi World Cup 2012 is the third edition of the circle style Kabaddi World Cup being organised by the Government of Punjab. It is played in Punjab, India in various cities of the province from 1st to 15th December 2012 with teams from 16 countries.

The prize money for the winners of the third edition is 2 crore, while the runner-up will get 1 crore. The team finishing at third position will get 51 lakhs.
