Box office collection : Talaash collects 14.52 crore on first (opening) day

Mumbai, Dec 1 (): Talaash, Reema Kagti’s second directorial venture, starring Aamir Khan, Rani Mukherjee and Kareena Kapoor in lead roles, opened to a tremendous response on the first day of its release. The movie has garnered a domestic box office collection of about 14.52 crores as per early estimates on its first day of release.

The movie was released on November 30, a non-holiday Friday in 2500+ screens in India and 520 screens overseas. Receiving a good response from audiences and positive reviews from film critics, the opening day collection was amazing both at domestic and overseas box offices.

Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted on Saturday,”Talaash figures are pouring in. A fantastic escalation has been witnessed in India and Overseas biz”.

“INDIA: #Talaash Fri Rs 14.52 cr nett. Fantastic growth in evening and night shows,” he said.

The response for the movie was slow in the morning shows and except in few high-end multiplexes, the film failed to pull crowds. But, when the day progressed most of the multiplexes started roaring in its business though the single screens still looked bleak.

Thus mutiplexes experienced 50-90% occupancy which is better than “Ek Tha Tiger” in properties like PVR Saket, Ambience Gurgaon and Inox Bangalore.

The single screen release is not up to the mark as the distributors did not release the film to them unless they committed to a couple of weeks run. That is why single screens have done a bit low business with approx 60-70% occupancy rate. Nevertheless, box office figures of Talaash are still strong enough to be called huge.

Collecting 14.52 crore on its opening day is itself a great achievement for the Reema Kagti’s directorial venture compared to figures of Diwali release movies Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Son Of Sardaar, who despite having a Diwali holiday release made a business of about 15 crores and 10 crores respectively on its 1st day at the Domestic Box Office.
