Mumbai, Nov 28 (): Priyanka Chopra has finally signed to do yet another woman-centric film, a Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming biopic film on the Indian boxing queen Mary Kom, the Olympic medal winner.
Priyanka Chopra had earlier denied being a part of the film. But, a source from the production house has confirmed the news saying that Priyanka has signed on the project on Sunday. They say she is surely on board and the work on her character would begin shortly.
Previously, the production house had wanted Priyanka to be cast in its Gujarati Romeo-Juliet. The source said that the idea however did not work out. Priyanka was keen to do this film and Bhansali thought she would be a perfect match for Mary’s role. They have met a couple of times to discuss the script and she finally signed the project.
Priyanka Chopra will be learning boxing from the Olympic medallist for four months early next year. Severe boxing training is a part of the acting workshop that Priyanka has to go through to prepare herself to play the boxer on-screen. So, Mary and Priyanka will be spending time with each other for some days.
A source very close to Bansali said the first two months will be spent in learning the ropes of boxing. For the next two months, Priyanka will be learning on how to box like Mary Kom. Four months is too little but Priyanka is very confident that she would be able to fight like the champ in those four months. And once the practise session is over, she will start shooting.
Interestingly, the film will also mark the Bollywood debut of Mary as she will be making a guest appearance in the film, most probably as one of Priyanka’s opponents in a short period towards the climax.
Earlier, Deepika Padukone had been thought for this role, but Priyanka Chopra was finalised. It is her physique that matched well with Mary Kom’s and therefore the offer went to her.
