Chennai,Nov 16 () : Five women executives among the top ten highest paid women are based in Chennai with Kavery Kalanithi (Sun TV) leading the pack.
Fortune magazine’s list of top ten highest paid women executives listed Kavery Kalanithi MD of Sun TV and wife of Kalanithi Maran from the Maran family related to DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi as the highest paid with Rs 57 crore as her annual salary. Interestingly,her salary last year was Rs 70 crore. The auditors of the company had in fact last year had asked the shareholders to question the high salary of the MD.
The second highest paid woman in the Fortune list of top 10 highest paid business women is Peninsula Land chairperson Urvi A Piramal with pay of Rs 7.3 crore.
The other highest paid executives from the metro are Preetha Reddy, MD of Apollo Hospitals with Rs 6.9 cr followed by the same concern’s JT MD Suneeta Reddy with Rs 5 cr. Aarthi Krishna of Sundaram Fasteners with Rs 4 cr and Rupa Gurunath of India Cements with Rs 3.9 cr figure in the list. Incidentally, Rupa is married to the grandson of AVM M Saravanan.
Fourth and fifth slot went to Vinita Singhania, MD of JK Laksmi Cement (Rs 5.9 crore) and Vinita Bali, MD,Britannia Industries(Rs 5.7 crore).
HDFC managing director Renu Sud Karnad earns about Rs 5.1 crore. MD and CEO Chanda Kochhar of ICICI Bank with a pay of Rs 4.24 crore is in the eight slot but is rated the top-most influential person in business by Fortune.
The second powerful woman in business is Mallika Srinivasan of TAFE followed by Aruna Jayanthi of Capgemini India, MD, Sales & Marketing Group, Intel South Asia; Abanti Sankaranarayanan, Apollo Hospitals MD Preetha Reddy, Chitra Ramkrishna, Joint MD AZB partners , India head of Facebook Kirthiga Reddy are the others in the list.
On January 2013, Intel India, a part of $54 billion corporation,will have two women at the top. Hailing from Kolkata, Kumud Srinivasan will be the first woman president of Intel India. The other top executive is Debjani Ghosh, head of sales and marketing.
