Five Maoists killed in police encounter in Odisha

Gajpati (Odisha), Nov. 14 (ANI): Security forces gunned down five Maoists in an encounter in a forest bordering Ganjam and Gajapati districts of Odisha on Wednesday.

“We have received information about the death of five Maoists during an exchange of fire in the jungle. The bodies are yet to be recovered as the operation is still on,” said R K Sharma, DIG Police (Southern Range).

“The slain Maoists belonged to a group headed by Sabyasachi Panda,” he added.

Superintendent of Police (Gajapati) C.S. Meena, who is coordinating the operation along with Superintendent of Police (Ganjam) Ashish Singh, said the operation was launched in the jungle after specific information about the movement of Maoists. (ANI)
