‘Don’t link luncheon meeting with PM with Winter Session’: Mayawati

New Delhi, Nov. 11 (ANI): Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati, who met Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh at his official 7, Race Course Road (RCR) residence here on Sunday, said that the meeting should not be linked to the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament.

Mayawati, who called it a routine meeting, said that it was not for the first time that she had been invited for lunch.

“It is not for the first time, I have earlier also on several occasions come for lunch and dinner. The honourable Prime Minister invited me for lunch and in politics lunches and dinners do take place. Don’t link my meeting with the Prime Minister with the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament,” she said.

Responding to a poser on West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee threatening to bring a no-confidence motion against the UPA Government on the issue of FDI in multi-brand retail, Mayawati said: ” I have spoken about this issue in detail in the national-level rally of my party in Lucknow on October 9. So, we will take our decisions keeping in mind to what I said on October 9.”

“We are supporting the UPA Government from outside and such meetings keep on happening,” she added, when asked whether the Centre was now giving more prominence to the BSP or Mulayam Singh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party in the wake of the TMC pulling out from the UPA Government.

The meeting assumes importance as it is being seen as one to form strategy to unitedly face any Opposition onslaught on issues like FDI in retail and price hike ahead of the Winter Session of Parliament.

Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav and his son Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah had already held such a meeting with the Prime Minister on Friday evening.

Leaders of other allies like NCP, DMK and RLD are also expected to meet the Prime Minister later in the day. (ANI)
