New Delhi, Nov 6 (Truth Dive):Refusing to serve under BJP president Nitin Gadkari, owing to the recent allegations of corruption charges, senior leader and lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani, on Monday resigned as member of the national executive by saying that he shall not continue in the party as long as Nitin Gadkari remains the president of BJP.
This comes in effect after Mahesh Jethmalani’s father Ram Jethmalani requested Nitin Gadkari to resign as the BJP chief and also not to try for a second term, till he comes out clean from the allegation charges that were levelled against him by the IAC activist, Arvind Kejriwal.
“I do not think it is appropriate to serve on the party’s national executive till you come out clean,” said Jethmalani in his letter to Nitin Gadkari.
The BJP chief has been under severe attack after he was charged with corruption charges of uncertain funding in his Purti Sugar and Power Company. Seeking Gadkari’s resignation, Ram Jethmalani had accused the BJP chief to quit his post for the party’s welafare.
“It is time to step down and give the position to someone who believes in self confidence. Nitin Gadkari should not hope to approach for the second term as there is doubt in his national integrity. Gadkari must not make a delay in stepping down as it might even weaken the party position which has decided to fight against corruption in the forthcoming elections, therefore the party is in need of an absolute honest man who believes in national integrity,” said senior lawyer Ram Jethmalani.
Following the charges against Nitin Gadkari, members of the BJP stood firmly behind him claiming that his decision of welcoming a probe itself was an indication of his being innocent.
However, Ram Jethmalani’s demand seeking Gadkari’s resignation was not paid much importance by the BJP.
