New Delhi, Nov 5 (): General Motors launched the premium hatchback “Sail” in India starting from Rs. 4.44 lakh. The Sail will be available in India in petrol and diesel variants.
Sail petrol version is powered with 1.2 litre engine and gives a mileage of 18.2 km per litre and is priced from Rs 4.44 – 5.8 lakh.
The “Sail” diesel version is powered with a 1.3 litre ‘Smartech’ diesel engine which gives a mileage of 22.1 km per litre and is priced from Rs.5.87-Rs.6.62 lakh.
Sail U-VA 1.2 petrol engine powers 86PS @ 6000 rpm with torque 113 Nm @ 5000 rpm.
The basic model 1.2 Base and LS will not have air bags and the models 1.2 LS ABS and 1.2 LT ABS have ABS.
Sail U-VA 1.3 diesel engine powers 78 PS @ 4000 rpm and torque 205Nm @ 1750 rpm.
The new Sail car has shooting-star style fog lamps and hawk-wing headlamps. It has wider tires and gas-filled rear and front shock absorbers.
Lovell Paddock, managing director of General Motors said that Sail U-VA is a very specially designed car for the Indian roads and the car was test driven for around 10 lakh kilometres. The engine and suspension have been calibrated accordingly with ground clearance raised.
The company claims that Chevrolet Sail has spacious interiors. The car contains a CD paler and music and a radio. Five persons can comfortably travel in the car. The roof is designed with more height for more headroom space for passengers who are taller. It has 12 spoke, 14 inch alloy wheels and remote keyless entry. It also has dual air bags.
The Sail U-VA comes with 100,000-km standard with a three-year warranty. Sail is being launched and sold in 14 countries in 2012. The company claims that it had sold more than six lakhs cars till now. The company also manufactures other cars under the Chevrolet brand, such as the Cruze, Beat and Optra.
