Pune, Oct 16 (): Dhruv-tara, an audio book on cricket maestro batsman Sachin Tendulkar, was released on a special ceremony at the Deccan Gymkhana Club on Monday, October 15 to mark White Cane Day. Sachin Tendulkar is widely considered to be one of the greatest batsmen of all time, after Don Bradman.
Sachin Tendulkar is currently in South Africa participating in ICC Champions Trophy. He sent his best wishes to the visually impaired on the White Cane Day and also delivered a special message to them. The special video message delivered by Sachin from South Africa was played in the launching event. He praised the entire team who created the audio format for the benefit of the visually impaired.
The audio version about the cricket champion is two and half hours long containing the subjects penned by Sanjay Dudhane, sports journalist and also commentaries of few selected centuries hit by Sachin who has made an unbelievable 100 international tons so far. The audio book contains some additional commentaries on some of Sachin Tendulkar’s other memorable knocks.
This audiobook about Sachin will probably be the best possible gift that could be offered to the visually impaired on the World Blind Day. The audio version was made by Satish Navale, an eminent researcher in blind education; Pravin Kachva, a worker for development for the visually impaired students at Pune Blind School at Koregaon Park; teacher Hanumant Joshi from Satara; Sanjay Unekhe, Indian Navy’s telephone operator at Lonavala; Nita Ghorpade and Milind Kamble everyone joined together to transform the book into audio setup.
Before the launch event, cricket matches were organized in the format of ‘double wicket’ for the visually impaired. Old captain of the cricket team of Maharashtra Shantanu Sugavekar, Aditya Thakar, Santosh Gokhale, general secretary of Deccan Gymkhana were among the others present in the occasion.
