New Delhi, Oct 14 (): Tennis player Sania Mirza has started constructing her own academy for tennis in Hyderabad. She says the “youngsters will be given quality training at affordable prices.”
The construction process of the tennis academy is going on at a fast pace at city’s outskirts and is likely to be opened next year in March. Sania told in an interview that she had been keeping such an academy in mind for a long time. She always liked to give back something to India and to sport in whatever mode. Sharing her experience and providing a good platform to the players to achieve at their highest level, she thinks it is one of the best ways to give back something to the game.
She added if not in next 5 years, in 10 years or 12 years, we would see new players emerging out of the academy.
The academy is under construction on 4 acres of land with 9 hard courts in the starting stage. Gradually, 9 more courts will be added along with 3 clay courts.
Imran Mirza, Sania’s father, who is now writing a book on her daughter’s sports journey, informed they are having plans of roping in few sponsors, which would help the trainees to get trained easily.
When Sania was asked about this season, nearing to an end, she said that she is greatly satisfied with this year’s performance. She said this year has been great. Totally, she played 6 finals this year and won one Grand Slam. She entered the China open final which is the biggest tournament after Grand Slam. She has achieved her best ranking, No 7 in doubles this year and in the coming year she wishes to do better than that.
This year, Sania played with many doubles partners due to several reasons. The tennis player competed with Bethanie Sands of America, Elena Vesnina of Russia, Anastasia Rodionova of Australia, Nuria Vives of Spain and Yaroslav Shvedova.
