Mumbai, Oct 4 (): Sridevi`s last movie ‘Judaai’ hit the theatres in 1997 and now in her comeback film ‘English Vinglish’, which hit the theatres on October 5, Friday, she portrays a housewife role, who struggles with English language in US.
English Vinglish is a hi-concept film and is not like the usual mainstream Hindi movie. It has taken an unconventional route, to entertain and enlighten us. Masala movies are great fun, but a film like English Vinglish breaks the monotony, shatters the unwritten rules of the film industry and would score great appreciation.
In ‘English Vinglish’, Sridevi plays the role of Shashi. The story of the movie revolves around Shashi, who does not know English and she feels insecure in her family and society at large. The film is light-hearted yet it is a touching journey of Shashi.
The circumstances make Shashi very determined to overcome her insecurity and learn the language. She wishes to teach the world a lesson by becoming a confident and self-assured woman.
The movie is shot mostly in New York. It captures the inherent struggle of many people all over the world with English language.
Actor Hrithik Roshan has praised Sridevi in her comeback movie ‘English Vinglish’. Hirthik had shared screen space with actress Sridevi as a child artist. He said he was amazed on seeing the promos of the movie. He says it is a touching story and has a nice script.
Hrithik has also postponed his plans to go for an outdoor shoot as he wants to see the film. He said he would go to the shoot by next flight.
Ad filmmaker Gauri Shinde, directorial debut movie is ‘English Vinglish’. Co-produced by R. Balki, Sunil Lulla, R.K. Damani and Rakesh Jhunjhuwala, the movie had a grand premiere at 2012 Toronto International Film Festival on Sep 14, where the film and Sridevi`s performance received global praise.
