Mumbai, Sep 26 ():Due to allegations on irrigation scam, Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar resigned his post on Tuesday and sent his resignation to the chief minister’s office which was moved to Governor for approval.
Ajit Pawar who is the nephew of NCP president Sharad Pawar said that he will remain in the party as the leader of NCP legislature as long as he is supported by its members. The Deputy Chief Minister was found to be guilty in the alleged scam while he was the then Maharashtra’s water resource minister and also alleged that he was ready to be investigated by the CBI on the issue.
Pawar who was also holding additional portfolios of finance and energy in Prithviraj Chavan’s regiment said that he is no more interested in holding the portfolios as he wants himself to be freed from the alleged scam, until then he is not ready to hold any position in the government.
“Some people are feeling jealous due to the growing power of the NCP,” said Pawar by not blaming anyone in particular for the present crisis.
While rejecting the allegation that he was forced to resign his job, Mr Pawar said, ”Even if we are thinking good, people create a feeling of mistrust. Despite this accusation if I still continue, then the people will have a bad impression on me.”
It was believed that Pawar who was heading the water resource minister from the year 1999 and 2009 had permitted thirty-eight projects at an estimation of Rs 20,000 crore in the year 2009 without the knowledge of the governing council of the VIDC by compromising the chief secretary and officers of the finance and water resource departments.
“This is an act of diverting attention from rest of the issues,” said BJP leader Kirit Somaiya while speaking to reporters.
