New Delhi, Sep 25 (): Maruti Suzuki, India’s best-selling car company is looking to make several changes in its best-selling model Alto, after 11 years of its launch.
The new Alto 800 will be launched on October 16. By replacing the existing old model Alto, the company finds way to overcome the tough market situations, especially interest rates and increase in petrol price as they have considerably brought down the sales of small cars.
The new model Alto 800 will have more fuel efficiency and would provide good mileage of 22.74 Kmpl, which is 15% higher than Alto F8D (19.7 Kmpl). As per company’s statement, the purpose of the new model is they wanted to do a much better model than the existing model.
The sales of Alto have declined by 34.83 per cent in April-August period. One year ago, the company sold 1.22 lakh units compared to 89,000 units this year in the same period.
Alto has been Maruti Suzuki India’s bestselling model for several years until another model Swift overtook the sales in start of this year. The sales ratio between Alto K10 and Alto is 1:2.
Last year, total sales of Alto were 3.8 lakh units and in the year preceding last, the sales was 3.4 lakh units. In 2001, when Alto was launched, the company sold 20 lakh cars in domestic market and exported 2.47 lakh cars.
Now, MSI has spent about Rs 470 crore to develop the new model of Alto 800 that is built on the basis of previous model. The company has also plans of exporting new Alto 800 to Latin America and Africa by 2012 end.
MAI’s Vice-President in Marketing, Manohar Bhat said that the current market is very difficult and there is a bit of instability and with the launch of new Alto 800, the company hopes there would be an increase in the sales. He said the new model petrol-powered car Alto 800 will be launched with stylish and modern design with more interior space.
