BJP demands white paper from Maha- government over irrigation scam

New Delhi, Sept 25 (ANI): Shortly after Ajit Pawar resigned from his post as Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief over irregularities in awarding contracts for irrigation projects, Bharatiya Janata Party’s national spokesperson Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday demanded a white paper from the state government.

Speaking to reporters here, Javadekar said, “We demand the Chief Minister that a white paper should come early and necessary actions and enquiry must be launched immediately.”

He welcomed Pawar’s resignation and said that he hoped the former Deputy CM does not go back on his decision.

“If somebody is ready for accountability and accepting the responsibility, it is good. He should not take back his resignation,” Javadekar added.

Earlier, announcing his resignation, Pawar said that he has communicated the decision to party chief Sharad Pawar, and added that also sent a resignation to the Chief Minister.

“I have worked to the best of my abilities. I will work for the NCP now,” he said.

Maharashtra Home Minister R.R. Patil had earlier on Monday defended Pawar, who is facing allegations of hurriedly giving clearance to 32 irrigation projects.

“NCP is fast spreading its wings in the state. Hence, some of our ministers are facing corruption charges,” he said, while reacting to reports that Pawar granted clearance to the projects worth Rs 20,000 crore in a matter of three months in 2009.

Patil also said that his party would give a befitting reply to the opponents, who are levelling ‘baseless’ allegations. (ANI)
