New Delhi, Sep 25 (): New Delhi is gearing up for its upcoming annual foot race, Airtel Delhi Half Marathon (ADHM), which is scheduled on September 30, 2012, Sunday.
David Lekuta Rudisha, a Kenyan middle distance runner who won 800 metres in the recent London Olympics in a record time, is named the event ambassador for the ADHM.
The Airtel Delhi Half Marathon is an event where individuals, institutions and organizations come forward every year and offer their participation in the charity as per their choice. The target for this year’s charity is Rs 4 crores and the charity drives related with the mass event have helped raise Rs 3.5 crore already.
Rudisha in a message from Kenya said that he was delighted to be selected as the brand ambassador for ADHM. The runner added that this event has always been a much expected event every year and there is no exception this year too. He said he is being honoured by the title and he encouraged everyone to participate in the event in whatever way it was possible for them.
Rudisha is eagerly looking forward for his visit to India to attend the event. He gave his best wishes to the sponsors, runners, organisers and to Delhi city.
This year half marathon will see 31,746 participants witnessing a rise of 27 per cent from the last year’s participation.
The total prize money for half marathon is $201,000 with $10,000 bonus for course record and $25,000 for new world record.
Many individual runners have dedicated their efforts and time in raising the impressive amount to the charities to which they support. Urvi Maheshwari of class 7, the youngest person has so far raised Rs. 2.3 lakhs and 13-year old Madhur Dhupar, has collected about Rs.3.5 lakhs.
ADHM is not only a sport event or just a way to raise charity funds; rather the event marks the togetherness of people.
