New Delhi, Sep 24 (): The Congress in the Centre is likely to draw its attention towards the Telangana issue as K Chandrasekhara Rao who has been camping for the past one week in the capital city is expected to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi today to discuss about the merging of TRS as well as statehood for Telangana, said sources.
After finishing the first round of talks earlier with senior minister Vayalar Ravi as well as Congress general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is in charge of Andhra Pradesh, Chandrasekhara Rao is set to meet Sonia Gandhi and discuss the Telangana statehood issue.
According to sources, it is most likely that the Congress too is aiming to execute the proclamation given by then Home Minister P Chidambaram in the year 2009 in which he promised to form a state of Telangana. “The procedure regarding the formation of the state of Telangana will be soon commenced, “was said earlier by Chidambaram.
After the resolution is passed, the government is likely to request to put off the September 30 Telangana protest call announced by M Kodandaram-led Telangana(JAC), which is eagerly waiting for a statehood for Telangana.
“We are eagerly waiting for the meeting with Sonia Gandhi. Till now no result has emerged. We are expecting a possible result on the formation of Telangana after which we will announce regarding merger,” said K Chandrasekhara Rao’s daughter Kavitha Kalvakuntla.
Sources said as far as the TRS is concerned, the formation of statehood for Telangana is likely to finish within six months; but things do not seem to appear so, as the parties making a demand for separate Telangana have in addition demanded for Hyderabad also.
Meanwhile, as the Andhra and Rayalaseema regions are not ready to compromise by sacrificing the capital city to Telangana, it will be more interesting to see how the Congress at the centre is going to work out this problem.
