Chennai, Sep 24 () : International brands of clothing, cars, bikes, perfumes and two new luxury hotels have set up shop in this metro which was known to be conservative when it comes to flaunting wealth and opulence.

The international French fashion house, Louis Vuitton (LV) which has clothes, jewellery, watches and sunglasses with its monograms on it opened its shop in Bergamo, a one-stop luxury destination that has only international brands. The lowest price tag of Rs 10,000 and costliest item being Rs 7 lakh did not seem to keep away eager buyers who turned up.

Now, one can see shops being readied for international brands – Cartier watches, Jimmy Choo shoes and Bottega Venetta, the leather accessories major, in the same Bergamo.

Bergamo built at a cost of Rs 10 crore (exclusive of land price) and located in Khader Nawaz Khan Road in the heart of the city is a house for only top-end international brands.

This is a story of a Chennai-based fashion retail store spreading its base to Bangalore and then to Mehrauli Evoluzione owned by Tina and Atul Malhotra who opened 5000 sq.ft store The Kila at One Style Mile, in Mehrauli with mind-blowing interiors by Chennai-based Vikram Phadke of Interspace Inc, in collaboration with Illum Design Project based in Mehrauli.

The store is all set to open its second outlet in Chennai because of the growing demand. The growing number of expats and the young generation craze for international brands has spurred this demand.

Two luxury hotels ITC Grand Chola and Hotel Leela Palace have started functioning. Leela’s conference hall has already ten bookings and they are for weddings! This shows a marked difference from the days when big time industrialists drove around in Ambassador cars and Superstar Rajinikanth in a Fiat.
