Mumbai, Sep 22 (): Anurag Basu’s Barfi in its first week has collected Rs.58.6 crores. The movie registered a tremendous collection on its opening day as well as on its first weekend. Trade analysts say Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra movie Barfi is doing well and it looks as if it is picking up even more.
Times of India says Barfi earned Rs.34 crore in its opening weekend. By collecting Rs.9.2 crore on Sep 14, Rs.11.5 crore on Sep 15, Rs.13.9 crore on Sep 16, Rs.6.5 crore on Sep 17, Rs.6 crore on Sep 18, Rs.7.25 crore on Sep 19 and Rs.4.25 crore on Sep 20, the movie collected a total of Rs.58.6 crore over its first week.
As per reports from Koimoi.com, the film has garnered 13 crores at its overseas box office collection.
The film was released on September 14 in 700 screens in India. The movie is about love between a deaf and mute boy and an autistic girl. Basu has depicted the love in a different manner.
Despite Ganesh Chaturthi festival on Wednesday and Bharat Bandh on Thursday, the movie attracted the viewers throughout the week, with Delhi and Mumbai region viewers being the biggest contributors for the movie. And the film is also doing well in multiplexes. The business picked up very well after a positive word of mouth and the excellent reviews given by the critics.
The movie is produced by UTV Motion Pictures at a budget of about Rs. 30 cr. The unit has recovered the cost of production from the opening week’s collection itself. Trade analysts say that the movie will be strong in its coming weeks as well.
Meanwhile, Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Heroine’ is said to affect the business of “Barfi”. Kareena Kapoor starrer movie opened on screens on September 21. The movie was widely released in India in about 2,000 screens and received mixed reviews. It opened with 60 percent occupancy across India, Koimoi.com reported.
