New Delhi, Sep 20 (): Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa is expected to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today.
Mahinda Rajapaksa who arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday night will be discussing with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh about the recent attacks on Sri Lankan pilgrims in Tamil Nadu.
After his meeting with the Prime Minister, the Lankan President is scheduled to move to Sanchi to lay the foundation for the Buddhist University, said sources. The Lankan President after meeting Pranab Mukherjee has been invited by the Prime Minister for dinner in his residence.
Prime Minister is also believed to discuss with Rajapaksa regarding the rehabilitation of the Sri Lankan Tamils and also point out their grievances in his meeting. The central government has invited the Lankan president to India in spite of strong protests from all over Tamil Nadu.
India is looking forward to maintain good relationship with the country that turned to be bitter after India voted against Sri Lanka at the UNHRC. In addition to this, India is also looking to increase its defence ties with the neighboring country.
“This visit of the SriLankan president is considered as a significant visit. We also believe that the visit will help both the countries to enhance the level of agreement on all matters, “said the Sri Lankan high commissioner Prasad Kariyawasam.
Tight security has been arranged all over the state following the visit of the Lankan President, after the MDMK protesters who arrived in large numbers from Tamil Nadu were prevented from entering the state of Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday protesting the visit of the president.
Police have also warned the MDMK chief not to create any sort of trouble during the visit of the Sri Lankan President. While talking to the reporters, Vaiko blamed the BJP for inviting the Sri Lankan President to Sanchi.
