Mumbai, Sep 17 (): Bollywood movie Barfi, the latest release of director Anurag Basu starring Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’Cruz in lead roles, has earned Rs 34.15 crores nett in the opening weekend at the Indian box office centres, as per reports given in oneindia entertainment site.
The movie has surpassed the record of Rockstar, Ranbir’s previous movie, which had garnered Rs 33 crores nett at the box office in its first weekend.
Barfi, the romantic comedy movie scored Rs 9.75 crores nett on the opening day, which was comparatively low than the opening day collections of Rockstar, which had collected about 11 crores.
Barfi saw a jump on Saturday. On the second day, the movie raked in Rs 11.50 crores nett and then on Sunday, the movie saw a big leap in collections. The collection on Sunday was Rs 13.45 crores nett, which gave a total first weekend collection of Rs 34.15 crores nett.
These collections are certainly fantastic for a movie which was opened on screens with restricted prints and was not really a typical commercial movie in its offering.
Ranbir Kapoor has scored good success by his excellent performance in Barfi. By receiving good name from his previous movie, Rockstar, he has been experiencing star power status and through Barfi’s success, he finds an admission into superstar league. Meanwhile, director Anurag Basu has taken the movie to a different level by his fabulous direction.
Massive promotions were done for the movie prior to its release, which created curiosity among film goers. The movie received positive comments from both viewers and critics. Moreover, there were not any big competitors to the movie. Raaz and Ek Tha Tiger are doing silent business, which helped in raking in Barfi’s collection.
The genuine collections at the box office reveal that the movie has been accepted by the audience in a big way. The movie is now all set for an amazing week ahead.
