New Delhi, Sep 10 (ANI): Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh on Monday assured the villagers protesting against the Kudankulam nuclear power plant in Tamil Nadu that the Central Government has taken all precautions so that any untoward incident does not take place.
“As far as Kudankulam protest is concerned, the Government of India has made it very clear that they have taken all precautions to prevent any untoward incident taking place in this nuclear power plant,” said Singh.
“Now, I think the protestors should realize that we need energy in this country and they should also understand that the Government of India has taken all precautions of every eventuality that may take place even to the extent of a tsunami, which damaged the nuclear power plant (in Japan),” he added.
The protests against the controversial project intensified yesterday with the villagers holding a rally around the site of the plant yesterday to reiterate their demand of shutting down the controversial nuclear plant. The locals here are protesting against the loading of nuclear fuel in the reactors, which is likely to get done over the next few days.
Defying prohibitory orders, the villagers tried to march to the plant and refused to pay attention to the repeated appeals by the concerned authorities to disperse.
The protesters, who were stopped by the police personnel, refused to move from outside the Kudankulam Nuclear Plant demanding for the Tamil Nadu Government’s intervention. (ANI)
