London, Sep 8 (ANI): Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has revealed praying for his family and all those he loved before every match he plays.
The England international has seldom overtly discussed his Catholic faith, only once admitting he wears rosary beads round his neck in training.
Rooney has told presenter Richard Keys that he insists on finding a quiet moment to reflect and pray before every game.
“I pray to God, of course. I believe in God. I pray in the physio room. I go in after my warm-up. I basically spend a few minutes in there on my own,” the Daily Express quoted Rooney, as saying.
“I don’t pray to help me score goals. I pray for the health of me and everyone on the pitch. It is something I have always done. I pray at night. I pray for my family and friends and for the health of everyone I love,” he added.
“I believed in Jesus of course, did drawings of him at school and I said my prayers most evenings,” he recalled a few years ago. Usually, though, I was praying for Everton to win on Saturday,” he said. (ANI)
