BJP promises separate Telangana within three months of assuming power

New Delhi, Sep 5 (): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday has announced to hold a dharna over the Telangana issue at Jantar Mantar. The Opposition has assured to form a separate state of Telangana within a period of three months if it assumes power in Centre.

Sushma Swaraj, leader of the Opposition stated this to party activists of Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh who have decided for a day long dharna in Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. After the Parliament was adjourned till 12 noon, Sushma Swaraj, who went to the protest venue to meet the activists of Telagana region in Jantar Mantar said, “Within three months of BJP forming a government in centre, we will form a Telangana state.”

While accusing the Central government for not keeping its promise of carving out Telangana, Sushma said, “Do not trust the UPA government anymore.” BJP leader Arun Jaitley also met the party workers and assured them a separate Telangana in future.

On Tuesday, a high drama was created outside the Parliament Street Police Station, when the BJP cadres in large numbers from Andhra Pradesh took out a march towards the Prime Minister’s residence demanding a separate state, forcing police to use water cannons and tear gas shells to disperse them.

The protesters of the Telangana party have been demonstrating in Jantar Mantar since Monday. The cadres of the BJP party under the leadership of Prakash Javadekar tried to break the obstruction, following which they were stopped from carrying out their rally by the policemen outside the station.

The police arrested some of the cadres who after being taken to police station raised slogans against the UPA government. They demanded the Centre to take immediate steps to form a separate Telangana.

BJP state president G Kishan Reddy, who is holding a fast took serious exception to the use of force by the police against the party cadres and said that the three-day deeksha is likely to continue and the party shall not have a second thought on its demand of a separate Telangana.
