Indian Idol 6 winner Vipul Mehta, wins by big margin of votes

Amritsar, Sep 3 (): On Saturday night, on a glittering grand finale stage a 21-year-old boy, Vipul Mehta from Amritsar beat competitors, who came from all over India to win the music reality show Indian Idol 6.

Vipul hails from Amritsar in Punjab. He started learning classical music from the age of eight. Over the past eight years, Vipul travelled to Mumbai for three months each year during his school/college summer vacation to learn classical music from Ustad Maqbool Hussain Khan. So, his journey towards victory was really not very easy.

At the winning stage Vipul said all the hard work he put into travelling, and the time and energy spent into learning music has paid off the prestigious title Indian Idol winner. He won the title in a big margin of votes. Vipul said his friends really supported him a lot by conducting campaigns and helping him garner votes.

The winner’s trophy was handed to Vipul by Kareena and Bhandarkar in the presence of the show’s judges – singers Asha Bhosle and Sunidhi Chauhan, and music directors Anu Malik and Salim Merchant.

Vipul was awarded with a cash prize of Rs50 lakh from the host channel, Sony Entertainment Limited. In addition, he was awarded a Nissan Micra car, a Suzuki Hayate bike, Rs3 lakh from Max Life Insurance and a contract to record his own music album from Universal Music.

When Vipul was 18-year-old, he lost his quest to be crowned Voice Of India. But after four years, he has proved that he has what it takes to be considered among India’s best singers. The singer said the age factor helped him as there has a certain maturity come with time.

The other two participants of final round Davinder Pal Singh and Amit Kumar were also from Ludhiana and Amritsar respectively.
