Indian Idol 6 winner is Punjabi boy Vipul Mehta

Mumbai, Sep 2 (): Punjabi boy Vipul Mehta was declared as the Indian Idol season 6 winner at a grand finale on Saturday night. Bollywood beauty Kareena Kapoor declared the winner at the glittering ceremony telecasted by Sony Television channel.

Three contestants entered the fray during the finale. All were from Punjab — Vipul Mehta, Devendra Pal Singh and Amit Kumar.
Vipul Mehta, the winner of Indian Idol 6, won Rs. 50 lakh cash prize, a Nissan Micra car and a Suzuki Hayate bike besides winning a contract to record an album with Universal music and a chance to render tracks for an upcoming Bollywood film. He also won a trophy and three lakh rupees from Max Life insurance.

Vipul Mehta has been among the most consistent performers on the show, and was praised by all the judges for his versatility. He gave wonderful performances on songs like Saada Haq and Chamak Challo, during the show.

The reality show was judged by legendary singer Asha Bhosle, Sunidhi Chauhan and music director Anu Malik. Indian Idol 1 winner Abhijeet Sawant and season 5 winner Sreeram Chandra gave a historical feel to the programme by performing a medley.

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar and actress Kareena Kapoor were present for the final to promote their upcoming film `Heroine’. Bollywood actors Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’Cruz also graced the show as part of promotion for their film “Barfi”. They all added glamour to the event.

The winners of the earlier five sessions are Abhijeet Sawant, Sandeep Acharya, Prashant Tamang, Sourabhee Debbarma and Sreeram Chandra.

Vipul Mehta winner of Indian Idol 6 has learnt Indian classical music from the age of eight and is a Mass Communication graduate. He wishes to make a career in sound engineering. He had participated in the singing reality show `Voice of India’ (season 2) in 2008, but he was not qualified to the top three positions in that show.
