After Aishwarya and SRK, Aamir Khan graces Time magazine cover

Mumbai, Aug 31 (): Following the huge success of his TV show Satyamev Jayate, Bollywood star Aamir Khan features in the cover page of the Time Magazine. Aamir Khan is featured on the cover of Time with the caption ‘Khan’s Quest’.

Bollywood actors who have featured before on Time cover are Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Parveen Babi.

Parveen Babi became the cover girl of Time’s July 1976 issue, after acting in super hit flick Deewar. The cover story was titled ‘Asia’s Frenetic Film Scene’.

On one of 2003 issues, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was called ‘New Face Of Film’. The magazine mentioned: ‘Aishwarya Rai leads the invasion as Bollywood goes global and becomes hip.’

SRK graced the cover of Time’s special issue in October 2004. The cover story was about ‘Asia’s heroes.’

The cover story says Aamir Khan is breaking the Bollywood mould by tackling India’s social evils. How can one actor change a nation? Through his TV talk show, Aamir Khan reached an estimated one-third of the country. The 13 episode-show displayed the persistent flaws of modern India that many of its citizens would prefer to ignore.

Khan’s show produced such an outpouring of outrage that the government of Rajasthan, with one of the worst gender ratios, promised action, and a village head there formed a committee to check against the practice.

Aamir Khan, 47, began his career as a romantic hero in Bollywood in the late 1980s. But over the last decade he has broken new ground in Bollywood. The talk show, Satyamev Jayate has cemented his status as Bollywood’s first true activist-star.

Time suggests, “Whatever Khan chooses to do next in his quest for grace, there’s a good chance it will lift India a little closer to what he – and fellow Indians – would wish their country and society to be.”

Many times Times magazine has featured Indian personalities on its cover. Mahatma Gandhi made the cover three times, and others being Sania Mirza, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and Narendra Modi.
