Nike may replace Umbro as England football team’s official kit provider

London, Aug 28 (ANI): American sportswear giant Nike is on the verge of signing a deal with the England football team that would make them their official kit provider.

Nike, who already supply the England rugby team, are believed to be launching the new ‘Away’ strip for the soccer team, despite their official kit sponsor Umbro’s existing 20 million pound deal, which was supposed to run till 2018.

According to the Daily Mail, the move, which will earn the Football Association (FA) millions, can be seen as a ‘fightback’ after German rivals Adidas dominated the Olympics by sponsoring the Team GB jerseys.

Nike has also taken over the 10-yr contract that Umbro had signed with Manchester City in 2009, worth 6 million pounds.

FA officials declined to make any comments on the matter. (ANI)
