Vilasrao Deshmukh critical, Riteish to donate liver to dad

Chennai, Aug 7 ():Vilasrao Deshmukh, former Maharashtra Chief Minister is under treatment in Global Hospital in Chennai, as he is suffering from a serious liver ailment and multiple organ failure, said sources.

Vilasrao’s son Riteish Deshmukh, a famous Bollywood actor, is expected  to donate a part of his liver to his ailing father. After the actor has proposed to donate his liver, the doctors began to examine whether tissues of both father and son match with each other.

As far as the transplant rules are concerned, the doctors are permitted to conduct liver transplantation on the patient only after an authorized committee headed by the Tamil Nadu director of medical education permits to carry on the transplantation.

“The hospital has not ruled out a cadaver transplant either. We shall keep him in the wait-list. Once his health returns to normal condition, we shall proceed,” admitted a senior doctor in the Global Hospital.

The 67-year-old Deshmukh was rushed to the Chennai hospital by a special flight from Mumbai on Monday, Aug 6. Doctors have kept him on life support as the former CM and the Union Heavy Industries Minister’s health condition deteriorated on Monday. “The former CM is on life support and is in a critical stage as he is suffering from a serious liver ailment and multiple organ failure,” said the doctors.

Deshmukh was earlier admitted at Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital and was believed to be on dialysis for three days. As there was no improvement in his health condition he had to be put on life support system, said sources.

Deshmukh had gone abroad earlier for check-up on two to three occasions and found slight improvement in his condition.

For the past one week, Deshmukh had been complaining about abdominal pain, due to which family members were forced to take him in air ambulance to Chennai’s Global Super- Speciality Hospital to carry out a liver transplant, which either will be donated by son Riteish Deshmukh or taken from a cadaver, said family members.
