Sherlyn Chopra, first Indian woman to pose nude for Playboy, faces backlash

Mumbai, Aug 2 (): Bollywood bombshell, Sherlyn Chopra is the first Indian woman to pose nude for Playboy Magazine.

Sherlyn Chopra, 28, who has appeared only in few films and has contested in the Indian reality TV show Bigg Boss, posed for a nude shoot in July and her picture will be published in the November issue of the famous Playboy magazine of Hugh Hefner.

Indians will not be able to purchase the print edition as Playboy magazine is banned in India.

In India, the actress is getting a lot of criticism because some people believe she is hurting the view that Indian women should be modest and pure.

In an interview with BBC Hindi, Sherlyn Chopra said that she was proud to be the first Indian woman to do so and regarded it as an achievement.

Tha actress added the nation’s youth “is racing towards liberalization, and that’s why being unconventional in your choices is no longer a taboo” and she even says she may next move into the porn industry.

BBC Hindi reported that Sherlyn Chopra wrote to Playboy expressing her interest in posing for a nude shoot and Playboy wrote to her back reporting to Chopra “within three to four days”. Hefner himself corroborated the news by taking to twitter and confirming that Chopra would appear in the November issue of Playboy.

Playboy published its first issue in 1953 and since its debut, Playboy has always been bounding the fashions of other popular men’s magazines by showing women posing stylishly in the nude. The magazine has always done a much better job at promoting diversity than most conventional fashion magazines.

China Lee graced the magazine as the first Asian American to pose for Playboy in 1964. Jennifer Jackson was the first African-American woman featured in 1965. By 1973, Ester Cordet was the first woman of Hispanic-American heritage to make into the magazine.
