Madurai KK hospital doctor held for raping school girl

Madurai, Aug 1 (): Dr Sankaranarayanan of KK hospital in Madurai was arrested on charges of raping a 16-year-old school girl who was taking treatment from him for the past several days.

The girl in her complaint admitted that the doctor had sexually assaulted her on Monday when she visited him in his private hospital.

The sixteen-year old minor girl from Sholavandan is studying in 11th std and had to approach Dr Sankarnarayanan of K K Hospital in Bypass Road in Madurai as she was suffering from fever for the past several days. The doctor after examining the girl, suspected her fever to be typhoid, prescribed medicines to the girl and advised her to come in the morning as well as in the evening to take injection.

On Monday, the girl as usual came to the hospital at around 5.30pm. The girl’s sister and brother-in-law who accompanied the girl went to a nearby shop while she was waiting in the hospital.  The girl claimed that the doctor told her to come to a lonely room on the pretext of taking some test. While she was in the room, the doctor administered some fluids to her and had raped her when she was semi-conscious.

All of a sudden the girl rushed out shouting that the doctor physically abused her. Since the sister who accompanied the girl was not present at the time the general public came rushing to the girl’s rescue.

The doctor meanwhile locked the door from inside and refused to come out. By then he public gathered enormously and protested in front of the hospital. Within a short period, a team of police rushed to the hospital led by deputy commissioner Thirunavukkarasu. The police had to forcibly bring the doctor out by breaking the lock of the room as he refused to come out.

S S Colony police arrested the 59-year old doctor and filed an FIR against the doctor. The girl and the doctor were subjected to medical examination on Tuesday. Dr Shankarnarayanan owns a hospital of his own where he resides in the ground floor of the 20-bedded hospital along with his family.

The doctor was previously accused in a similar crime when he was serving in a Usilampatti hospital eight years back. The doctor has two children, a boy and a girl, both are said to be medical students.
