Teri Meri Kahaani – Review

Mumbai, Jun 22 (): Filmmaker Kunal Kohli has done his latest romantic film Teri Meri Kahaani starring Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in lead roles. Teri Meri Kahaani is a huge-awaited triple-treat story of romance and love, which intertwines three stories, happened over three different eras into a wonderful single flick.

2.5 / 5

Director: Kunal Kohli
Screenplay: Robin Bhatt
Story: Kunal Kohli
Produced by: Kunal Kohli, Vicky Bahri, Sunil Lulla
Cast of TMK: Shahid Kapoor (Javed, Govind, Krishna), Priyanka Chopra (Aradhana, Rukhsar, Radha), Prachi Desai (Maahi) and Neha Sharma (Meera)

The story proceeds through a wonderful journey of eternal love between a beautiful couple who have promised to love one another not only in their persisting life, but also in every life that are assumed to follow. Their love is so deep and strong that even fortune wants to bring them together.

The first epic happens in 1910, during freedom struggle. A muslim boy (Javed) falls in love with a Punjabi girl (Aaradhana).

The next epic starts in 1960, where an ambitious music director Govind falls hopelessly in love with the most successful actress of Bollywood of the era Rukhsar.

The final saga comes in 2012 in England. Love occurs between hot chic Radha and sexy dude Krissh.

In the love stories in different eras, a boy and a girl meet to rekindle their immense love for each other but fail to take their love to finality. It is all to be watched in the silver screens to watch out whether love wins over the destiny or not.

Shahid Kapoor has done all the three roles wonderfully. It is to one’s surprise that he has done justice to all his respective roles of different eras. Shahid has done an exceptional job throughout the movie. The star looks very dashing and dapper in the 60’s costume.

Priyanka Chopra too is outstanding in all her roles. Priyanka looks gorgeous and is a perfect fit as typical sixties heroine in a very beautiful gleaming costumes.

Priyanka and Shahid pair together for the second time in Teri Meri Kahaani, their first pairing was in Kaminey. So, the pair created curiosity among the audience. Priyanka and Shahid has done their best to satisfy the audience’s curiosity.

Sunil Patel’s cinematography in the movie is just breath-taking.

Neha Sharma and Prachi Desai too have done a good job.

Costume designers Kunal Rawal, Manish Malhotra needs very special mention. They have made a splendid job and have made the 1910 and 60′s characters look more genuine and realistic.

Music by Sajid-Wajid has delivered a perfect musical blend for Teri Meri Kahaani by mixing out a soundtrack that has a youthful passion. As the movie is a love story covering three eras, there is plenty of scope for some good music and beautiful situations.

Foot tapping songs like ‘Mukhtasar’ and ‘Allah Jaane’ are already the hot favourites amongst the masses. They are melodiously sung, well-written and skilfully choreographed. Other tracks have also made a mark with its soothing music.

Director Kunal Kohli has further proved his trustworthiness as an enhanced director and carved a place for himself. But what is disappointing in case of ‘Teri Meri Kahaani’ is neither his midas touch nor the polished star cast is able to save the film’s fate.

The movie falls down for its weak storyline and plot which offers nothing new to the audience which they would hold in their mind and appreciate for days. There is no sense of timeline as the narrative begins with 1960, moves to 2012 and then, strangely, comes back to 1910.

The best part of the movie is the impressive chemistry between the pair and the way Kunal concludes the three stories. The uniqueness of the film is fascinating enough to make the viewer’s hang on and wait for every scene.

On the whole, Teri Meri Kahaani is good. It recovers the long diminished romantic era of the Bollywood.
