Chennai/Moscow, May 30 (ANI): World chess champion Viswanathan Anand’s father Viswanathan Iyer on Wednesday shared his delight over his son retaining the World Chess Championship title after defeating his challenger Boris Gelfand of Israel in Moscow.
“Indeed, extra proud. See, it’s sensational; he has achieved the best of the chess world. Gelfand has always been a tough opponent. Even in the earlier games, if you see he has been always a tough opponent,” he told media outside his residence in Chennai.
When asked that the earlier games were not so easy for Anand, Iyer said: “See, the new crop has come in. he is in between the new generation and the old generation.”
Anand finished off the championship match with a draw in the fourth tiebreaker game.
With this, Anand won his fifth world chess championship title after winning the ultimate glory in 2000, 2007, 2008 and 2010. (ANI)
