Kahaani remake: Anushka Shetty to do Vidya Balan’s role

Chennai, May 20 (): Anushka Shetty, who received lots of fame for her tremendous performance in the movie Arundhati, has accepted immediately to do the lead role in the woman-centric film, Kahaani.

Other actresses like Nayantara and Sneha were suggested by the makers of the movie, but at last Anushka Shetty was given the offer and reports say Anushka immediately accepted the offer without having any second thoughts.

Now, it is confirmed by the makers that Anushka will reprise the role of Vidya Bagchi in the remake. Anushka opened about her appreciation for actress Vidya Balan and also expressed her interest in playing the role of Vidya Balan in “Kahaani”, who did a NRI Indian lady role coming to India in search of her missing husband. Vidya Balan has a cameo role in the remake.

The film will be made in Telugu and Tamil simultaneously. Endemol India, production unit of many TV reality shows in Hindi, is entering film world by making the Kahaani remake. The shooting starts in September and is scheduled to hit the screens on January 2013.

Sujoy Ghosh, the director and co-producer of the original version with Pen India Pvt Ltd, is working as co-producer of the remakes and he will be joining with a prominent director from south Indian film industry.

Sujoy Ghosh was delighted on knowing that the movie Kahaani’s franchise is handled by a famous name of the entertainment industry, Endemol India.

Endemol India is famous for its innovative television shows like “Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi” and “Bigg Boss”. Now, it has plans of producing at least 3 or 4 films yearly, with balanced mix of Bollywood and southern scripts.

CEO of Endemol India, Deepak Dhar said after producing the biggest reality shows in the country, they thought to undertake something new. Film making was always their ambition and were delighted to finally get a wonderful project.

Many projects are by this time lining up for 2013 and the unit is extremely thrilled about their first project, the remake of Bollywood blockbuster ‘Kahaani’.
