Mumbai, Apr 4 (): The all-explosive IPl 5 is here. Sachin Tendulkar on Monday decided to hand over the captaincy of Mumbai Indians to Harbhajan Singh following a discussion with the management of Mumbai Indians.
Sachin Tendulkar has officially announced that he will not captain Mumbai Indians, and instead the senior player Harbhajan Singh will lead the team.
Mumbai Indians issued a press release stating that Sachin Tendulkar, post discussions with Mumbai Indians management members has decided to hand over the captaincy of the team to ace off-spinner Harbhajan Singh for IPL 5 season.
Sachin added that the Mumbai Indians is like a family to him and felt that he needed a break from the role of captaining the team. He says he had discussed his decision with Mukheshbhai and Nitabhabi, who had graciously accepted his decision and also ensured continued support for him to enjoy the game. He also ensured full support for Harbhajan Singh, as the senior most player in the team
Harbhajan termed his elevation to the captaincy as “a huge honour”. He said that Sachin paaji had spoken to him about his decision of wanting him to take over the responsibility of the team. He also thanked paaji and Nita bhabhi for the faith reposed in his abilities.
He expressed that Mumbai Indians is a great team with a huge talent and promising youngsters.
Harbhajan added that he was committed to do the very best and look forward to leading the team to play to its full potential during the season.
Sachin Tendulkar last month scored his 100th century in Asia Cup 2012.
IPL 2010 runners, Mumbai Indians will begin their IPL campaign against defending champions Chennai Super Kings in Chennai on April 4, in the first match of the tournament.
