Moscow, Mar 25 (): Russia’s Proton-M is scheduled to carry a US telecommunication satellite into space on Sunday.
The takeoff of the Proton-M, which is to carry the Intelsat-22 satellite, has been scheduled for March 25 from the Baikonur space center in Kazakhstan under a contract concluded by International Launch Services Inc. (ILS). It is scheduled to launch the Intelsat 22 satellite on March 25, 2012, at 18:10 Baikonur local time from launch pad 39.
This is the first super synchronous mission for ILS Proton. The Proton M launch vehicle, uses a 5-burn Breeze M mission design. The first three stages of the Proton will use a standard ascent profile to place the orbital unit (Breeze M upper stage and the Intelsat 22 satellite) into a sub-orbital trajectory. From this point in the mission, the Breeze M will perform planned mission maneuvers to advance the orbital unit first to a circular parking orbit, then to an intermediate orbit, followed by a transfer orbit, and finally to a geostationary transfer orbit.
Earlier, Roscosmos a spokesman for the Russian Federal Space Agency said in a statement, “the state commission has decided that the Proton-M launch vehicle, Briz-M booster and Intelsat-22 satellite are ready to be transported to the launch pad.”
Intelsat-22 is built by Boeing Space and Intelligence Systems for Intelsat Ltd., which operates the world’s most extensive satellite network, comprising over 50 satellites. The satellite is based on their 702MP platform and possesses a mass of 6199kg.
The satellite is equipped with 48 C-band and 24 Ku-band transponders and will provide telecommunications services to customers in Africa, South-East Asia, and the Middle East.
Intelsat-22 also carries UHF payload under a $167-mln contract with the Australian Defense Ministry.
The launch of the Proton-M is conducted under a contract concluded by International Launch Services Inc. (ILS), which is owned by the Khrunichev Center, RSC Energia and U.S. firm Space Transport Inc.
