New Delhi, March 7 (): Actress Vidya Balan was named the best actress at the 59th National Awards announced in New Delhi on Wednesday. The Malayali girl is being honoured for her power-packed performance in the hit movie The Dirty Picture.

Rohini Hattangadi chairperson of the Feature Films Jury announced the list of winners for 59th National Film Awards.

Actress Vidya Balan is currently busy promoting her upcoming movie Kahaani in Dubai.

Vidya Balan is still trying to believe that she has won the prestigious trophy. “I want to believe it..long cherished dream has come true…. my first…I don’t know what to say….I want to thank director Milan Luthira for giving me this film. This is really unbelievable…It is the biggest honour of the ocuntry…it is very speical…every award is special,” Vidya Balan told after winning the award.

This happens to be the hat-trick success for Vidya Balan, who has been winning the National Award for three consecutive years for R Balki’s Paa, Vishal Bhadrwaj’s Ishqiya and now Milan Luthria’s The Dirty Picture.

“As the role is concerned, it really required mentally to be totally uninhibited…the film’s success has opened a lot of opportunities especially the kind of roles for the female actors. It is very nice to see that the line between so called meaningful cinema and commercial has blurred,” said the actress.

Produced by Ekta Kapoor, the unofficial biopic of the southern sex siren Silk Smitha (played by Vidya Balan) not only rocked the box office and set the cash registers ringing; it also won the maximum popular awards.

The National Film Awards, which were started as an annual incentive by the Government of India, for the making of artistic, competent and meaningful films have come a long way, to cover the entire national spectrum of Indian Cinema, to judge merit by the highest possible yardstick and to become the most coveted and prestigious award in the country.
