Snehithudu – Review – Telugu remake of Hindi 3 Idiots & Tamil Nanban

Chennai, Jan 26 (): Snehithudu is the dubbed version of Tamil movie ‘Nanban’, which is a remake of the Hindi film ‘3 Idiots’ based on the novel ‘Five Point Someone’ by Chetan Bhagat. Snehithudu, starring Vijay, Jeeva and Srikanth has taken Andra Pradesh and other parts of South India by storm.

The film opens with Srikanth and Jeeva starting their journey in search of Vijay. Amongst them travelling is Sathyan, a topper in their class and today a bigwig in his technological industry. He is here to inform their buddy Vijay that he has won the bet he had placed before years.

Now, the flashback starts…. The flashback is about the college days and the machine lives of engineering students with the toughest professors including Sathyaraj making it tougher for them.

Srikanth, Jeeva and Vijay are three engineering students who share the same room in their college.

Srikanth is studying engineering to pursue his father’s wishes over his own wish. Jeeva studies to raise his family’s fortunes and get them out of poverty. On the other hand, Vijay studies for simple passion in machines and devices.

Vijay says education should be useful to our lives and doesn’t believe in memorizing subjects. Vijay loves daughter of the college principal, Ileana, a medical college student.

The principal of the college, Sathyaraj has ideas in total contrast to Vijay. He loves other student Sathyan, who memories his lessons and gets good grades.

Vijay passes out in flying colours. Meanwhile Vijay’s heroics, wins him the adulation of all around. Vijay helps his friends achieve their dreams. But after exams, Vijay disappears. Srikanth and Jeeva with Ileana in the company begin their search for Vijay. What they encounter in their search shocks them. Did they succeed in their mission or not forms the climax?


Vijay have changed to the character to excel. He is the only actor, who can pose jovially as a college student. He looks trim fit and fine for the role of a student.

Jeeva looks bubbly and energetic. His characterization is engrossing and more of humour.

Srikanth replicates what Maddy did in the original ‘3 Idiots’. His role as a typical orthodox middle class family is done well. Ileana is impressive and looks apt for the role of a medical student. Sathyaraj in a strict professor role impresses everyone.

Sathyan in a comical role is annoying. The cameo by S J Surya and Anuya is worth a watch.

Shankar’s swift screenplay, making changes that suit Telugu audience is amazing. There are no dull moments in the movie. Shankar has brought in the right kind of actors.

Manoj Paramahamsa’s soft lens captures campus life in beautiful colours. Editing by Anthony adds beauty.

Harris Jayaraj’s songs are already a rage with youngsters and music lovers and topping the charts. The background score too adds strength to the script.


‘Snehithudu’ is definitely a special treat for both Shankar and Vijay fans, and a wholesome entertainment for everyone who loves good cinema!

‘Snehithudu’ will surely attract the youth crowd.
