London, Dec 21 (ANI): A British couple celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary have revealed the secret to their long-lasting marriage – sleeping in separate beds.
Sydney Smith, 97, and wife Phyllis, 95, have slept in two single beds for the past 40 years and insist that it is this space, which has kept them together.
“We both need our space to get over the arguments,” the Daily Mail quoted Smith as saying.
The couple met in 1930 when Smith, a member of the Church Lads Brigade and his pals were courting a group of girls including Phyllis.
Speaking about their secret to a long-lasting marriage, Sydney said: “Two single beds. We’ve had them for 40 years.”
The couple also revealed their best moments together were the births of their three children Graham, 73, William, 67, and Beryl, 69.
“Becoming a family together was wonderful and the fact that we’re still here to see them grow is fantastic,” said Smith.
“She doesn’t believe me but I still love her,” he added.
The couple celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary with their children, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren at Princethorpe Court residential home, in Coventry. (ANI)
