New Delhi, Dec 21 (ANI): Former senior police officer and civil society activist Kiran Bedi on Wednesday accused the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre of misleading the people of the country with their move to keep the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) out of the Lokpal Bill ambit.
“You made a Lokpal (Bill), but only for namesake. It has no administrative responsibility of CBI, its budget, transfers and postings, everything you kept with yourself (government). So, this is a way of misleading people,” said Bedi.
Meanwhile, Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief Ram Vilas Paswan backed the Congress Government, and criticised veteran social activist Anna Hazare’s team over their demand for bringing in Group C and D employees within the ambit of Lokpal.
Paswan said that Hazare is seeking reasons to hold demonstration against the ruling Congress Government.
“Anna Hazare is persisting with his demand of including class c employees in the ambit of Lokpal. CVC (Central Vigilance Commission) is not a government’s employee. CVC is similar to the Lokpal,” said Paswan.
“If the government is saying that A and B class employees would be brought under the Lokpal and now he (Hazare) would say that C employee would also be brought under the Lokpal, however that will happen with the help of CVC, then it’s an example of the fact that a drunkard needs an excuse to drink, means Hazare want a reason to hold demonstration,” he added.
Anna Hazare had earlier in the day hit out at the Centre’s draft, and said the government excluded the CBI from the Lokpal ambit to save Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram.
“If the CBI was brought under the ambit of the Lokpal, then Chidambaram would have been in jail. You are protecting the corrupt politicians and then you are saying that this is a strong Lokpal. What strong Lokpal? CBI has been kept out from the Lokpal,” Hazare told the media at his native village Ralegan Siddhi.
Hazare further said the government draft of the Lokpal Bill is misleading.
“PM has to be responsible for and other people like the Army and others and it will continue like this and no stringent action will be taken. It is not a strong anti-graft bill. It is deceiving the people. They are cheating the people and the public will someday teach a lesson to these people,” he said.
The Union Cabinet had on Tuesday approved a historic bill for creation of the Lokpal with Constitutional status. A new Lokpal Bill will now be introduced in the Lok Sabha tomorrow.
Hazare has, however, written a latter to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, and threatened to go ahead with his proposed three-day fast from December 27 for a strong Lokpal Bill. (ANI)
