Cabinet approves draft Lokpal Bill

New Delhi, Dec 20 (ANI): The Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved the draft Lokpal Bill.

The draft of the Lokpal Bill will be tabled in the Parliament on Thursday.

According to reports, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been kept completely out of the ambit of the anti-graft bill. The CBI Director will be appointed by the Prime Minister, Leader of Opposition and the Chief Justice of India (CJI).

The Prime Minister will be under Lokpal ambit with certain safeguards.

Veteran social activist Anna Hazare had earlier in the day reiterated his demand of bringing an effective Jan Lokpal Bill in the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament.

Despite assurances from Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh that the government is committed to bring in a strong and effective Lokpal Bill in the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament, Hazare has threatened to go ahead with his proposed indefinite fast from December 27 and court arrest agitation from January 1, 2012, if the Bill was not passed in the current Winter Session of Parliament.
