Captain Vijaykant goes to fifth position in civic polls

Chennai, Oct 23 ():  According to State Election Commission the opposition party DMDK stood at fifth position trailing even behind the independents in the civic polls. AIADMK followed by DMK and then the independents and surprisingly the BJP too made inroads along with  Congress.

AIADMK party won 414 wards in 10 corporations and 1,680 wards in municipalities, besides 2,849 wards in town panchayats. In the elections to the district panchayats, the AIADMK won 566 ward member posts and 3,716 panchayat union ward member posts. The DMK won in 3,990 posts, including 23 municipalities and 121 town panchayats. Besides, the party has bagged 105 wards in corporations, 963 wards in municipalities and 1,820 wards in town panchayats. It also grabbed 26 district panchayat ward member posts and 932 panchayat union ward member posts.

Independents emerged victorious in 3,304 posts in five municipalities, 64 town panchayats, 52 wards in corporations and 552 wards in municipalities and 1,995 wards in town panchayats. They also made their presence felt in panchayat union by winning 636 ward member posts.

DMDK bagged 850 local body posts, including those in two  municipalities, three town panchayats, seven wards in corporations, 120 wards in municipalities, 392 wards in town panchayats, five ward member posts in district panchayats and 321 panchayat union ward member posts.

The Congress gathered a total of 735 posts from 24 municipalities, 15 wards in corporations, 166 wards in municipalities and 379 wards in town panchayats, four ward member posts in district panchayats and 147 ward member posts in panchayat unions.BJP has won in 270 posts, including two municipalities, 13 town panchayats, four wards in corporations, 37 wards in municipalities, 181 wards in town panchayats, two district panchayat ward member posts and 31 ward member posts in panchayat unions.
