New Delhi/Srinagar, Oct 9 (): Pakistan Prime Minister Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani inaugurated medical college, Al-Shifa Eye Trust Hospital and the Government Boys Model High School in POK controlled Muzaffarabad recently. The hospital has been named in the memory of late Mirwaiz Maulvi Farooq who fell to the bullets of assailants on May 21, 1990 here.
According to reports President Pakistan-administrated-Kashmir Sardar Yaqub Khan and Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed hosted a lunch in honour of Gilani on Saturday. Gilani arrived in the PaK capital on a day-long visit to inaugurate a series of development projects and announced several new others, on the sixth anniversary of the tragic earthquake in 2005. He announced 2,000 new jobs in PaK Police Department for an improved security system.
“The Muzaffarabad Medical College has been dedicated in the name of renowned Kashmiri leader late Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq in recognition of his peerless contribution in the Kashmir struggle,” Gilani said while speaking at the inaugural ceremony.“Kashmiris and Pakistanis are one as their hearts throb in unison,” he added.
“Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto’s political philosophy and their love for the people of Kashmir serve as a beacon light and a source of inspiration for all Pakistani leaders,” Gilani said.“The way Bhuttos highlighted Kashmir issue was outstanding and unparalleled,” he added.
Terming October 8 earthquake as the greatest tragedy, he said, “Government and the people of Pakistan fully realize and feel the pain and grief of the victims of the history’s worst ever natural catastrophe.
Mirwaiz Maulvi Farooq was the chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, a coalition of disparate political parties in Jammu and Kashmir that wish independence for the state. He was assassinated in 1990. After his assassination his son Mirwaiz Omar Farooq took over. Another leader Abdul Ghani Lone was shot dead in 2000 on the same day.
