Chennai, Apr 23 (Truth Dive): Youth envoy of the United Nations Habitat, Tamil actor Vikram, said he would work towards planting at least one lakh saplings in a year through his new initiative to save the earth, Pachai Puratchi an intiative that he launched. With the help of his fan clubs, the movement would pick up.
Fresh from his visit to Nairobi, Africa, where he participated in the UN Habitat’s 23rd governing council meet, the actor announced the launch of his social outfit for environment and said that he would intensify the work undertaken by him towards eye donation, education and environment. Vikram said the visit to Nairobi had awakened him to several pressing problems the world faced, and strengthened his resolve to do his bit for the earth. In his forthcoming films, he would also try to include dialogues and scripts with a social bent, he said. “As a UN envoy, I am expected to take the issue of housing for all and other UN goals to the public and the government,” he said.
He said he would soon launch Karka Kasadara, an effort to tackle high school dropout rates. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s first manned space flight, movie stars serving as UN-HABITAT youth envoys last week joined Norwegian Junior Minister, Mr. Arvinn Eikeland Gadgil and agency officials, at the glittering launch ceremony of a new internet help desk for urban youth in Nairobi.
The launch was attended by UN-HABITAT Youth Envoys, Mr.Vikram Kenny aka Chiyyan Vikram (KENNY), the actor and philanthropist from India, Mr. Ramsey Noah, the Nigerian actor, the artist Mr. Wolfgang E. Riegelsberge from Germany, and the renowned Nigerian actress, Ms. Ini Edo. All pledged to work harder to address the concerns of young people in their own countries and regions.
