Chennai, Dec 4 (): The eighth art festival of ‘Naadhabrahmam’ was inaugurated at Chennai. Speaking after bestowing the titles to the artistes Mr.T.R. Pachamuthu, Chancellor of SRM University, said that efforts should be taken to create positive awareness among rasikas to patronise both the arts and the artistes.
In his observation, the people in foreign countries spend their evening hours attending concerts which happened rarely. In the musical capital of India, there need to be steps taken to take the arts to the common man also, he added.
The title of ‘Naada Kovida’ was conferred for the vocalist T.V. Sankaranarayanan; the title of ‘Nrithya Kovida’ was conferred to Padma Subrahmanyam; the title of ‘Naada Sevika’ on vocalist S. Sowmya and ‘Nrithya Sevika’ on dancer Pavithra Srinivasan.
Mr.Sankaranarayanan and Dr.Padma Subrahmanyam received the honour and a cash prize of Rs.10,000 each, whereas the other two artistes received a citation and a cash award of Rs.5,000 each.
Felicitating and honoring the awardees noted dancer V.P. Dhananjayan said one could see companionship among artists in Chennai only.
Praising the hard work of N.Subramanian, editor of ‘Naadhabrahmam’ musical magazine, he said articles published in this were very useful to both vocalists and dancers.
