Chennai, Nov 26 (): Chief Minister and DMK party leader Mr.M.Karunanidhi has urged the external Affairs Minister S.M.Krishna to take steps to discuss the issues to find solutions for the welfare and rightful living of Sri Lankan Tamils.
He stated that the Sri Lankan Tamilians are facing untold miseries and innumerable hardships and his discussion with S.M.Krishna would pave way for its solution.
In his letter to Mr. Krishna, who will be visiting SriLanka, the CM said that one of the main issue causing serious concern for people of Tamil Nadu, was the presence of 30,000 people in the camps as acknowledged by the India Foreign Secretary IFS during the vist.
Though the issue was taken up earlier with the Sri Lankan government number of times, it is really painful to note for this problem is not yet resolved.
The second issue that was raised by him was the resettlement and rehabitation. This was not addressed well by the Sri Lankan government in spite of the considerable amount of efforts and conversations at various levels undertaken by the Indian government.
He also stressed that, the displaced Tamils have to be provided with peaceful and dignified life. He also demanded a timeframe for the completion of 50,000 houses, which would be built by the Indian government for the displaced people. This should be pushed through and completed in a time-bound framework, so that they are allotted to the Sri Lankan Tamils expeditiously.
The Chief Minister also expressed his regrets on the delay in finding a political solution and devolution of power, finally stating that, though these issues had been talked about for a very long time, they were yet to be given a shape.
