Madurai, Oct 18 (): Many private educational Schools and Institutions at Madurai and other peripheral areas have declared a holiday today, in view of a public meeting to be addressed by AIADMK genearal secretary Jayalalithaa near Pandikovil in the city outskirts.
Though there has been no official communication from the Education department, many schools apprehended traffic diversions and decided to declare the day as holiday inorder to avoid any disturbance and inconvenience to the students.
Meanwhile AIADMK functionaries said Jayalalithaa was likely to address party cadre by afternoon, lakhs of workers from the southern districts are expected to gather for the meeting, and so there would be traffic blocks expected at the city.
A top police officer said they were fully geared up to provide adequate security for the event and to the AIADMK leader, who is in Z-plus category. From airport to the meeting venue, there would be tight security, he said.
Police were not taking any chances in view of the various threat letters received by the AIADMK general secretary, he said.
