Tripathi’s statement came even as India Cements, which owns Chennai Super Kings, issued a bizarre statement that effectively appeared to distance the connection with Meiyappan.

The India Cements statement said that Meiyappan was not the Principal (owner) of Chennai Super Kings, and only one of the members of the management looking into its affairs.

Tripathi said : “I believe whosoever is guilty should be punished. The media is responsible for making these people (IPL) heroes. Match fixing has been taking place for a long time. They should be punished. There money should be consfiscated, as it is the peoples’ money. N. Srinivasan should immediately resign, keeping morality in mind, until the investigation is complete.”

“I believe people involved in match fixing should be punished strictly. People found guilty should be given rigorous punishment of ten years,” he added.

Senior Samajwadi Party leader Naresh Aggarwal said: “We are all worried on what is coming out on IPL. The issue is serious,” and added that big names are being saved at the expense of small names.”

He also called for Srinivasan to reign as BCCI president till the investigation into the IPL spot fixing episode is completed.

He also said that the Sports Ministry should make a law to end the autonomy of the BCCI

“Sports organisations should be brought under the government. There should be strict laws so that these kinds of incidents are not repeated in future,” he added.

He also said that there was nothing wrong in politicians heading sports organisations.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Yadav said that the spot fixing episode has destroyed the credibility of the IPL and everything else, and added that “it has lowered the dignity of India.”

He further declared that no one is innocent.

“They should take action against everyone. They all do it for money. They should close all of this. Everyone is dishonest. They should investigate the matter,” said Yadav.

Rajasthan Sports Minister Mangilal Garasia said he would be meeting with various sports associations to discuss modalities for enacting a new sports policy.

Delhi’s Education and Sports Minister Kiran Walia said: “It is very important to have discipline in sports. They should not be treated in a different manner as they have done wrong to the whole country. There has to be institutional arrangement.” (ANI)

The director duo Krishna DK and Raj Nidumoru said that they were doing a film with Mahesh Babu. They were in talks with the actor since six months. The movie is an action-comedy film and it is not a remake of any south film, it is an original subject.

The director duo rocked Bollywood with their zombie comedy film Go Goa Gone, starring Saif Ali Khan, Kunal Khemu, Vir Das and Puja Gupta.

Mahesh’s debut film is likely to be made in two languages – Hindi and Telugu. The shooting for the film will begin by the end of this year. The makers are searching an actress for the lead lady role. They have decided to choose either a known actress or even a newcomer, whoever fits the role.

The makers also said that the yet-untitled project will be a stylish action film that the makers plan to promote on an international scale.

Even though, Mahesh Babu was not available to get comments from him, Raj confirmed the development, he said that they would be starting the work with Mahesh after their present film with Saif. At this point, the film is in Telugu and the decision to make it in Hindi also would be taken when they start shooting, he said.

The broadcaster argues that afternoon matches viewership has been low and All Indian rating on average has been 2.9 while Hindi belt was 3.0. The channel is not worried as no advertisers have withdrawn any advertisements. Multi Screen Media which runs Set Max had got largest advertisers in this season. The revenues are high and the game was on with no controversy. One reason for distribution issues was a reason for drop in ratings as channels objected to rates issues. However, the IPL, coming to the end of the business has not rocked the tournament but will in the coming years.

The Mumbai Metro was a bitter experience for Reliance. Connecting Versova to Andheri, the project was commissioned ten years ago. After several disputes and land acquisition delays, the project started work five years back. Now when the first trial run was done, Reliance which started with Rs2200 crore was left holding a bill of Rs 4000 crore. The Government delayed the payments citing clearances and the company was paying interest. The Government did not allot depot site and nor closed the accounts.

Seeing this experience, R-Infra quit the 5,000 crore-Worli-Haji Sea Link project after two years of war with the government. Next was the 32-km second phase extension of Metro Rail project which will face termination due to lack of progress. It won two mega t transmission projects ever a private company was ever awarded but could not start work on them due to inordinate delay in government clearances. Jalan says that it was the company happiness in getting the project that made it overlook clearances. The company says that accountability to shareholders is important.

Not only Reliance but many other companies want to exit some projects and want to focus on few projects that have chances of completion and revenue. Reliance wants to exit its Delhi Airport Metro Express line since it is making losses. Reliance banked on retail market to get lot of traffic it crashed and the revenue wasn’t there.

Initially, authorities had issued a tsunami warning for the Sakalin Islands and the Kuril islands. Later, the Russian emergency officials have called off the tsunami warning.

The powerful earthquake with 8.2-magnitude jolted Sea of Okhotsk from a depth of 601.80 km at 0544 GMT Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The epicentre was located in the Kuril-Kamchatka arc, 359 km southwest of Esso. Kuril-Kamchatka arc is one among the most seismically active regions in the world.

The main city of Kamchatka is home to a nuclear submarine base and Russia’s largest liquefied natural gas project is in Sakhalin.

The huge magnitude and great depth of the quake meant that its echoes were felt across the Eurasian continent including the Russian capital. The aftershocks were felt as far away as Moscow, over 9,000 kilometres away. Some people across the Moscow city evacuated from buildings.

The residents of Moscow informed security services of tremors and vibration that caused furniture and kitchen utensils to move.

Tremors are extremely rare in Moscow, the last recorded instance was in the 1977. The Russian Meteorological Service did not have immediate information about the magnitude of the tremors of Moscow. No fatalities have been reported across Russia.

Sakhalin region residents reported that they were unable to turn on electronic devices after the earthquake.

The Russian Federal Service of Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring (Roshydromet) has confirmed that the aftershocks felt in Moscow were caused by an earthquake in the Sea of Okhotsk. The agency said the tremors felt in Moscow was no higher than 1 on the Richter scale.

The West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Centre of the United States said in a statement that due to the depth of the earthquake no tsunami is expected. The China Earthquake Networks Centre placed the magnitude at 8.7.

Ishkq In Paris is as stupid as its spelling. The movie is a bad film brought further down by a bunch of Bollywood cliches and a fading Preity Zinta. This, as you should have guessed from the title or the posters or the heading of this review, is a bad film. Evidence can be found in the fact that the men in the film, having worked previously on truly dismal projects, decided to come to this one with names changed.

The Department of Homeland Security has warned that the use and passage of 3-D printed guns are likely to spread beyond regulations and checkpoint restrictions, posing ‘public safety risks’ to an uncontrollable extent, Fox News reports.

The bulletin compiled by the Joint Regional Intelligence Center said that the 3-D printing capabilities have made much progress and the digital 3D printer files are freely available on the internet by downloading blueprints and molding three-dimensional items from melted plastic, adding that the file sharing from unqualified gun manufacturers will be sufficiently dangerous.

The first-ever plastic handgun made from a 3-D printer was made by a University of Texas law student who started a nonprofit company called Defense Distributed. The blueprint for the gun called ‘The Liberator’ whose only metal parts are the bullets and a small firing pin was downloaded 100,000 times before May 3 when a branch of the U.S. State Department ordered the website to stop sharing the file.

The three-page bulletin said that limiting access of the gun will not be feasible anymore as magnetometers used to screen weapons will not pick up a 3D-printed gun and the only solution is a 3-D firearm which can again be made without serial numbers or unique identifiers, hindering ballistics testing.

The bulletin further explained that though the proposed legislation to ban 3D printing of weapons may deter the production but it cannot completely stop online distribution of the digital files.

The handgun poses serious threat as future designs may further reduce or eliminate metal entirely allowing unqualified gun seekers to be able to acquire or manufacture their own Liberators with no background checks, the report added. (ANI)

Western analysts believe that there would be a vacuum when the United States troops return home. They fear that the Taliban or other fundamentalist forces will fill the vacuum. They fear that the situation would be similar to that which existed in Afghanistan two decades ago when the U.S. withdrew following the defeat of Soviet Forces in Afghanistan.

Such an assessment would appeal to the Western ego. Western analysts tend to overlook the progress made by Afghanistan in various spheres in the recent past. President Karzai wants to make sure that the institutions built in the country should be assisted to consolidate and grow.

What did Karzai ask for during his visit to India? And what were the assurances from the Indian side. It is unlikely that President Karzai asked for Indian troops to fill the vacuum created by the withdrawal of the Western forces. India had made it clear that the Indian Army would not be deployed in Afghanistan. And, Karzai was aware of it. During the last decade, India has been assisting Afghanistan in building roads and training people in healthcare, among other things.

India has reiterated its willingness to train Afghan personnel in various fields, including security, in India. To this list, Afghanistan has added defence equipment. In his interaction with the media after talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other leaders, President Karzai said he has given a ‘wish list’ of defence equipment to India and suggested that India should help set up a “Sandhurst-type” military academy in Afghanistan and help equip the army to ensure security of the country.

Afghanistan would like its armed forces personnel to receive training at an institution in the country itself, instead of its personnel coming to India. As far as the wish list of equipment is concerned, the request includes supply of howitzers, helicopters and bridge laying equipment.

Afghanistan would like to get defence equipment from India, as it would be easier for the security forces of Afghanistan, who have been trained in India or by Indians, to assimilate the weapons easily.

Karzai, who has had his education here, pointed out that India – which is traditionally not a donor country – has donated around $ 2 billion to Afghanistan. He expects India to continue assisting to enable Afghanistan to stabilize itself.

India is also engaged in the construction of the Chahbahar Port in Iran, which is adjacent to Afghanistan. Once the port is ready, it will also improve communication from India to Afghanistan. Karzai would have been given the assurance that as Afghanistan moves towards its critical period of political and economic transition, India can play a crucial role in ensuring that country’s security and stability.

Firstly, by asking for assistance to create a Sandhurst type institution in his country, President Karzai wants to ensure that the Afghan National Army, which has a strength of 180,000, and is expected to reach 240,000 by next year, would be strong enough to ensure the security of the country.

The Afghan National Police will also be a strong force by the end of this year with a strength of 140,000.

The biggest problem for Karzai has been the fact that NATO forces have been fighting insurgents within Afghanistan, while most of them have their bases in Pakistan.

Pakistan, which claims to be in the forefront of fight against terror, has been providing shelter to the Taliban for over a decade.

President Karzai is hopeful that the recent elections in Pakistan will be helpful. He pointed out that the peace process in Afghanistan would be difficult without the cooperation of Pakistan. Nawaz Sharif has received assistance from various radical groups during the election. However, the recent statements by Sharif has given hope both to Afghanistan and India that there would be progress towards the consolidation of peace in the region. By I. Ramamohan Rao (ANI)
