Chennai, Aug 9 (): DMK’s first family is facing a palace coup according to sources.
Organizing secretary Kalyanasundaram has been stripped of all posts and suspended for saying that Stalin should be CM candidate in 2016 State polls and Duraimurugan in an interview to a Tamil channel saying that DMK will project Karunanidhi as CM and no action being taken has become a subject of discussion.
Kalyanasundaram held the powerful organizing post in DMK as he was a Stalin loyalist. He was the one behind various election rallies of Stalin in the last LS polls. According to sources, the suspension comes with the statement to media that Dayanidhi Maran, Kanimozhi as well as Raja should be kept away from DMK was a test dose to see whether it would provoke Karunanidhi into any action or he will simply ignore it. If the Supremo kept silent, it would mean that Stalin as DMK president was acceptable and the other family members would be relegated to obscurity.
Duraimurugan who was in charge of Vellore seat was sought to be suspended for the party’s defeat. Even the ally Indian Union Muslim League to whom the seat was given had said it shifted Muslim votes to DMK through the alliance; in Vellore it got the community votes but did not get any extra vote.
It alleged that Duraimurugan worked for A C Shanumugam, the industrialist who contested on a BJP ticket and due to this IUML was pushed to third place and AIADMK won the seat. Duraimurugan was spared even after IUML threatening to quit from DMK alliance.
The DMDK – DMK alliance fell through as Stalin was not willing to accept Vijayakanth as a leader. If Karunanidhi is projected as CM, then Vijayakanth will be ready to talk. During the elections, Kanimozhi was given a raw deal as the meetings were organized badly and it looked like that DMK did not want her to be seen in public.
With CBI tightening the noose on Marans, the call to keep them away from DMK is also yet another reason. Karunanidhi feels that Maran’s media empire is an asset to the party. Stalin has not reacted to the suspension and so also Alagiri. Stalin has left for a two-month tour of the State to meet party leaders.
